Moorak
Regional South Australia
Jordan Hein is a first generation winemaker. Impressively self-taught, it’s rare to come across such a deep thinker when it comes to making wine, especially at such a young age.
Based in McLaren Vale, although sourcing fruit from across South Australia, Jordan and his Moorak label perfectly encapsulate the sort of producer that greatly excites us.
Each vintage, Moorak strives for partnerships with sustainable and organic growers, each with a progressive focus on regenerative viticulture. The underlying aim is to present fruit from those with knowledge, a deep understanding of the vines and vehement respect for the land from where it grows. Jordan’s winery is a minimal carbon-impact facility, completely off-grid, using Solar power, rainwater and bore water throughout production.

Nice palate weight here: very lifted and aromatic nose. There is some fruit weight evident, but the palate is crystal-clear with a rocky/mineral edge. Lots of acid, lots of tension, crushed rock, quite serious stuff. Much weightier than anything from Clare - closer to a Crawford River Riesling in style. Shape is kept nicely by the acid line. Served blind to two people who both said Chenin. - Ches Cook, LC Selections.

Pretty serious stuff here. Lots of ripe lemon, citrus oil and white stone fruit. Great mouthfeel with richness on show but fleshy acid to support. Primary and juicy with good energy and tension. Mandarin zest andorange rind to close. Really enjoying this. - Ches Cook, LC Selections.

Pale colour in the glass, very attractive perfume but with substance. Palate is medium bodied at most - lots of detail: briar, wet earth, definite spice profile. Quite complex. 100% whole bunch but gobbled up nicely. Quite serious Pinot with savouriness throughout. Great stuff - have i tasted something this good from Mount Gambier before? Unlikely. - Ches Cook, LC Selections.
